Overall, Dr Karen

Dr Karen Overall is a faculty member at the University of Pennsylania’s Department of Veterinary Medicine, a board-certified veterinary behaviorist and applied animal behaviorist (CAAB).

She edits the Journal of Veterinary Behavior: Clinical Applications and Research and has written the clinical textbooks, Clinical Behavioral Medicine for Small Animals (1997) and Manual of Clinical Behavioral Medicine for Dogs and Cats (2013).

Dr Overall also invented the Protocol for Relaxation, which teaches dogs to remain relaxed in a changing environment.

Panskepp, Jaak

A neuroscientist who has done groundbreaking work into how emotions are processed by different pathways in the brain, and how emotions can impact on behavior.  This field is called affective neuroscience.

Panskepp discovered the SEEKING system, which mark and reward trainers claim to be making use of in their training.

Yin, Dr Sophia

A veterinary behaviorist, inventor, and author who made many significant contributions to *behavior modification. She developed a set of protocols for vets called “Low Stress Handling”, designed to safely manage dogs and cats at the vet’s office whilst causing the minimum possible anxiety. She published several books and DVDs on dog training and puppy raising, and invented the Treat n Train. Dr Yin died in 2014, aged just 42.
